We the 1978 NSCBians

The 1978 NSCB batch
Never did get a parallel match
As 50 girls of the batch by their ability
Proved the reservation policy’s futility

Malviya Sir was one of our anatomy professors
Who walked in the dissection hall always with a scissors
Dr Guha was out always to set an artistic trend
Dr Malhotra our HOD was the strictest friend
Dr Verma knew his subject well
So could efficiently cast a scholarly spell

The mathematical subject physiology
Brings back memories flooding
At the sight of blood
Of a friend fainting
It was funny to see boys
Requesting the girls for pithing
As they went about advising
Though Guyton was
one of Favourite books
Ganong did provide me
With a good read on few topics

Pathology never did interest me
Except for reading Boyd like a novel
Though Robins always did provide me
With the better option

PSM the happening subject of today
Was the dullest during our times
Except for the lorry rides with batchmates
While returning from the village postings
Which provided us
With memories of a lifetime

Forensic the subject of the dead
Reminded one of smelly dungeons
Though Dr Sakalle did add humor
To reduce its gloominess

The memory of stating khus khus as poisonous
In pre-university exam still lurks in my mind
Relating the whole story of which at home
Made halwa of khus khus an interesting find

Pharmacology was the dullest of the lot
And was of interest only for the medical lot
For it was a subject to be crammed
Without the clinical knowledge at hand

In second prof, the clinical postings
Saved us from the dreariness
Of theoretical teachings
By providing us with opportunities of bunking
An ethical way to avoid the feeling of sinking

Final prof always sounded so intriguing
With medicine, surgery
Obs gyne and ophthalmology
Quenching our clinical thirst
We waded our way through the final year
With full zest

Medicine was there for those who detested surgery
And surgery for those who loved creativity
Obs Gyn was the subject sought by topper girls
The reason to date I could not comprehend

Ophthalmology was for the docile,
The aesthetic and the tender
Who detested emergencies
But loved the surgical manoeuvres.

So together,
We the batch mates
Travelled this path
Which lasted for four years and a half
Before we parted
For our internship and specialisation
To become competent
And become masters of our profession
